Craft Some Lavender Sprigs with Air Dry Clay
Tatiana (aka) Mokko has prepared a great step by step tutorial at the Russian site 'Fair Masters" for making lavender from air dry clay. Because computer translations are notoriously full of errors, especially when it comes to crafting terminology, I've provided an English interpretation below for your convenience. If you'd rather work from the original, click here. (Note: When computer translates page, it calls this a polymer clay project, however, no-bake, air dry clay is the medium used in demo.)
These lavender flowers could be made life size or in miniature.
No shape cutters needed for this project, just clay, wire, PVA (white) glue and scissors. Lavender and green paint needed to pre-tint clay unless you have purchased colored clay.
Make a Clay Ranunculus
Step by step tutorial from Nurainie Tan for creating a Ranunculus flower. She is using gumpaste to create her flower but techniques are the same for air dry clay. You'll need teardrop petal cutters in various sizes. You can make your own cutters (search this blog for tutorials) or purchase a set. They are available in a variety of prices from inexpensive to professional quality tools.
Easy Roses to Make with Clay
Here's a step by step photo tutorial for making roses. It was written for a gumpaste cake topper but the technique is exactly the same for air-dry clay. However, for clay flowers you can use glue, wire and other inedible products that probably wouldn't be used with gumpaste creations.
Usually the best air-dry clays to use for making flowers are the softer formulas like DecoClay, Hearty Clay, Martha Stewart's Claycraft and similar clays which are often sold pre-colored. Cold porcelain is also great for making flowers. I love the idea shown here of using spoon to shape the petals.

Have you ever made flowers with clay? Many brands of air-dry clay can be made into very thin, translucent petals that are also strong. "Craft Ideas for All" has a nice little tutorial for creating roses and cherry blossoms to make the pretty arrangment shown here.
