Step by step photo demo to make this Balancing Bunny cake topper from Rouvelee's Creations. Uses Styrofoam balls for body armature and Styrofoam eggs covered in clay.  Fondant was used here but cold porcelain or any of the softer types of air dry clay would be suitable.

How to Create a Clay Unicorn

This is a step by step tutorial by IndigoOcean to create a realistic unicorn (or a horse if you prefer).  Tutorial is in PDF format and includes lots of photos.   The artist takes you all the way from concept drawing, to creating an armature, sculpting the horse/unicorn, creating a mold and casting the sculpture.  You can skip the mold creation/casting process if you prefer, it's not a necessary part of this tutorial.  Just create your own one-of-a-kind sculpture instead!

Because the artist plans on creating a mold, he is using Plasteline clay, which is an oil-based clay which does not harden.   The Plasteline figure will be discarded after casting.   The author says:  "I'm not narrowing down the materials too much. The actual sculpting medium you use is entirely up to you, and this tutorial will focus on my process more than anything. I sculpt using many materials- polymer clay, air-dry stoneware clay, wax, plasteline, paper clay, and epoxy putty- but for all of them the techniques used vary little. This tutorial centers around designing, sculpting, molding, casting and finishing a piece."

Make This Sleepy Puppy

Make this cute sleepy puppy with cold porcelain or other air-dry clay. Materials needed include:

Cold Porcelain (about 1 lb...500 gr)
Polystyrene or Styrofoam spheres No 4 and No 5  (1 for body and 1 for head)
Acrylic or oil paint to pre-tint white clay: Raw Sienna and Burnt Sienna
Sculpting tool & clay roller
Vinyl or water-based glue
Eye stickers (or paint the eyes)

Blushing powder  (pastels, scrapbooking powder or make-up)

Black permanent marker for "freckles"
Optional wood base

Acrylic paints for the wood base:  yellow and white

Paper Mache Buffalo

Brian Bemisdarfer sculpts instant papier mache into his unique "Thathanka — Giver of Plenty" buffalo.  Pretty nice sculpt, don't you think?   Here's the step by step instructions for creating the buffalo.

The modeling material he is using is a dry powder that is mixed with water for an instant papier mache pulp. Either Celluclay or Sculptamold or something similar.    He does not appear to be using the paperclay product, Creative Paperclay but Creative Paperclay could be used!
